# Low stock alerts

Answers to common questions about safety stock levels, low stock alerts, and notification settings in BoxHero.

***

#### **What do the different low stock alert statuses mean?**

BoxHero groups items by comparing their **On hand** quantity against the **Safety Stock** level you've set. Each item falls into one of three statuses:

* <mark style="color:$primary;">`Low Stock`</mark> — On-hand quantity is at or below your safety stock level. The list shows the **Shortage** (how far below you are), so you know how much to reorder.
* <mark style="color:$primary;">`Running Low`</mark> — On-hand quantity is above your safety stock level but no more than 1.2× it. An early warning before an item slips into low stock.
* <mark style="color:$primary;">`Overstock`</mark> — On-hand quantity is more than 3× your safety stock level. Flags items that may be tying up storage space or capital.

If you set the safety stock quantity to **0**, you'll only receive a notification when the item is **completely out of stock**.

#### **What kinds of notifications can I get?**

You can get low stock alerts by push notification, email, or both. When you add a recipient in <mark style="color:$primary;">`Alert Settings`</mark>, choose <mark style="color:$primary;">`Push`</mark>, <mark style="color:$primary;">`Email`</mark>, or both for that person. Push notifications are delivered through the BoxHero mobile app, and email is sent to the recipient's account email address.

#### **How often are low stock alerts sent?**

Alerts are sent at each time you've scheduled. In <mark style="color:$primary;">`Alert Settings`</mark>, open a recipient and pick one or more hourly time slots (for example, 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM). Times and delivery methods are set per recipient, so each person can be notified on their own schedule.

#### **Why am I not getting notifications?**

A few things to check:

* **Alert Settings:** Open <mark style="color:$primary;">`Alert Settings`</mark> from the <mark style="color:$primary;">`Low Stock Alerts`</mark> screen and confirm you've been added as a recipient, with an alert time and a delivery method selected.
* **Device settings:** For push notifications, make sure notifications for the BoxHero app are turned on in your device's system settings (iOS or Android).
* **Email:** If you're expecting email alerts, check your spam or filters in case they're being sorted out of your inbox.
* **Do Not Disturb / Focus Mode:** If active, these can silence or block BoxHero push notifications.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you're still not getting notifications after trying the above, please contact [Support](/docs/resources/contact.md).
{% endhint %}

#### **Can I set up automated reordering for low stock items?**

Not yet. BoxHero doesn't have a built-in automatic reordering feature. You can, however, use <mark style="color:$primary;">`Low Stock Alerts`</mark> to monitor safety stock levels and create purchase orders manually to replenish inventory when needed.
